- build IIRD into a model that promotes sustainable livelihoods at the grassroots level

- Raise awareness among communities to analyze their socio-economic and environmental condition so as to design and implement action programmes for their sustainable development
- Involve the marginalized communities in the formulation and implementation of development strategies
- Promote gender equity and ensure that the benefits of development interventions reach the poorest and the marginalized
- Appreciate the value of diversity in nature and enrich the environment for the needs of the future.
